Susana Rinderle is a Los Angeles native who has also called Mexico home, and considers herself a “dual citizen of California and New Mexico.” She has been a poet, writer, musician and songwriter since childhood. She won a poetry competition at age 17 and her winning piece was published, but she didn’t start performing spoken word until her 40’s. She began competing in Albuquerque poetry slams in 2013. That year she placed 4th in the city championship and 4th in the Women of the World local qualifying competition.
Susana believes poetry is a vital force for social and personal change, and is grateful for its unique power to give voice and bring healing. Her work often focuses on romantic and family relationships, womanhood, grief, and civilization decline. She has been described by audience members as “intense yet uplifting”, “indignant”, “healing”, “hopeful” and “giving voice to women’s issues we can relate to, in a positive way”.
Susana’s work has been published in journals including Malpais Review, Snapdragon Journal, and Deep Times: A Journal of the Work That Reconnects. Her work has also been featured in poetry anthologies including We Don’t Break, We Burn: Poems of Resilience; Fixed & Free Poetry Anthology 2021; Poetry for Coaching: Transformation Through Verse; and two issues of Catching Calliope.
